I bring to your kind notice that large-scale soil mining is happening at Ayakudi village (Palani Taluk, Dindigul district). The Department of Mines and Geology has failed to adhere to environmental laws.(1/8)

They have given permission for soil mining in closer proximity to the western ghats (forest area) and elephant corridor. Also, the maximum depth allowed in Patta Land is 1.5 m or 5 feet, but they have gone deeper to 15-20 feet in many places. (2/8)

1) The villagers protested many times to stop this illegal soil mining.
2) A Public Interest Litigation case filed at Madurai HC
3) Ayakudi Village Administration Officier (VAO) and his assistant got attacked by soil mafias. (3/8)

Despite all this, how come the mines department is still allowing this nonsense? This will certainly lead to bigger environmental issues in western ghats. Excessive soil mining has already damaged the biodiversity and affected many livelihoods in this area. (4/8)

A recent amendment to the mining laws directly encourages quarrying and mining activities near to 60-meter range of wildlife zones. 1-kilometer wildlife buffer zone and removing the word "reserved forest" from the newly amended law is a serious threat to the environment. (5/8)

Please intervene to stop the soil mining and conserve wildlife.
