72.6% cast votes in 46 civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh

A total of 72.6% voters exercised their franchise to elect representatives in 46 civic bodies of the state spread across 18 districts on Tuesday. Voting was held between 7 am and 5 pm and the process went off peacefully in all districts.

BHOPAL: A total of 72.6% voters exercised their franchise to elect representatives in 46 civic bodies of the state spread across 18 districts on Tuesday. Voting was held between 7 am and 5 pm and the process went off peacefully in all districts.
These 46 local bodies did not go to polls early in July during the civic polls as they had not completed their terms.

Against the total voter turnout of 72.6%, 74.2% males and 71% female voters exercised their franchise according to the state election commission.
Counting of the votes will be undertaken from 9 am on September 30.
Thus, out of 8.42 lakh voters of these constituencies, 6.11 lakh exercised their voting rights and sealed the fate of 3,397 candidates who were in the fray. 25 others were elected unopposed.
The maximum voter turnout of 89% was reported from Mohgaon in Chhindwara district and minimum 50% voter turnout was reported from Sarni in Betul district. The 46 civic bodies where elections were held include 17 municipalities and 29 municipal councils. These 46 also include 6 newly formed municipal councils. And there are a total of 814 wards in these 46 civic bodies and for these wards a total of 1212 polling booths were constituted.
