Chargesheet filed against ex-Tamil Nadu minister Vijayabaskar, his wife

The Pudukottai detachment of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has filed a chargesheet against former AIADMK minister Dr C Vijayabaskar and his wife V Ramya in the disproportionate assets case before the special judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Pudukkottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: The Pudukottai detachment of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has filed a chargesheet against former AIADMK minister Dr C Vijayabaskar and his wife V Ramya in the disproportionate assets case before the special judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Pudukkottai.
According to the statement released by DVAC, Vijayabaskar and his wife have been found to possess assets such as bank balances, business investments in companies like M/s Rasi Blue Metal, Rasi Enterprises, and V Infrastructure, as well as land properties, machinery, ornaments, and vehicles, amounting to 35.79 crore (35,79,90,081).
These assets are disproportionate to their known sources of income, and the couple has failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for them.
The DVAC registered a case against the former health minister and his wife on October 17, 2021, under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC for amassing wealth and financial resources worth 27.22 crore (27,22,53,736), which exceeded their known sources of income.
It may be noted that DVAC conducted searches at various locations, including Vijayabaskar's residence in Sowrashtra Street, Iluppur, Pudukkottai, the Mother Teresa Group of Educational Institutions in Mettusalai, Iluppur Taluk (run by Vijayabaskar's family, including his brother R C Uthayakumar), and the residences of his personal assistants and associates in Iluppur, Kulathur, and Mathiyanallur on October 18, 2021.
During the investigation, the DVAC searched 56 locations and seized incriminating materials and documents. Subsequently, after obtaining the necessary sanction for prosecution from the Tamil Nadu assembly speaker, the chargesheet was filed before the special judge of the chief judicial magistrate court, said DVAC.
