Spectator gored to death in manjuvirattu near Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu

A 25-year-old man was gored to death in a manjuvirattu event at Vaarpattu village near Ponnamaravathi in Pudukkottai district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as R Siva, 25, of Kannanur in Sivagangai district.

PUDUKKOTTAI: A 25-year-old man was gored to death in a manjuvirattu event at Vaarpattu village near Ponnamaravathi in Pudukkottai district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as R Siva, 25, of Kannanur in Sivagangai district.
Sources said the villagers organised the manjuvirattu on the occasion of Maha Sivarathiri festival. The victim, a spectator,, was hit by a bull and suffered injuries leading to his death.
The Ponnamaravathi police took up the investigation.
A jallikattu was also held in Alunthur near Thiruverumbur and Aalathur near Iluppur in Pudukkottai district. In the Alunthur jallikattu, 600 bulls were unleashed and 220 tamers were allowed in the arena. The event left 27 people injured, including 18 bull owners, five bull tamers, and four others. While 24 of them were treated as outpatients, three people were hospitalised.
At Aalathur, 19 people were injured, including 13 spectators and six bull tamers. A total of 736 bulls were released and 211 bull tamers participated in the event.
