Suspected drone-dropped arms, ammunition recovered in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday morning recovered arms and ammunition from an abandoned packet, suspected to be drone dropped from across the International Border (IB), in a village of Vijaypur of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir.

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday morning recovered arms and ammunition from an abandoned packet, suspected to be dropped by drone from across the international border (IB), in a village of Vijaypur in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district.
Police said, "During the search operation launched by police after the drone was pushed back by BSF troops on Saturday, searches were being carried out in the border area of district."
“On a specific information about a suspected package lying in the fields of Rakh Barotiya in the Vijaypur belt, police team along with bomb disposal squad and FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) rushed to the spot."
Police said, "It was first ascertained if the package contained an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) or a booby trap.”
"After due precautions, the police team opened the package and arms and explosives were recovered," police said, adding, "the recovery included three China-made pistols, six magazines, 48-rounds and four hand grenades."
Police also recovered a box and a long plastic string approximately 50 metres long -indicating its (packet's) air dropping.

"The area has been cordoned off and searches are still in progress," police official added .

Confirming the catch, sr superintendent of police (SSP) Samba, Benam Tosh, said," Today an information was received about a suspicious object. Police rushed to the spot. The bomb disposal squad too was also called in."
"On opening the packet, police recovered arms and ammunition including hand grenades, SSP Samba said, adding, "An FIR stands registered in this context and police has started investigations."
Earlier Jammu and Kashmir police had recovered a hand grenade during a search operation launched after a high intensity explosion rocked a border village Saniyal in Hiranagar of Kathua district on March 30.
