NASHIK: There was some tension in the Bhagur area after four bovine animals — one cow and three calves — were found killed near the Rahuri village on Sunday morning. Residents of the area staged a rasta roko on the Bhagur Rahuri road to demand immediate arrest of the people responsible for killing the animals.
The dead animals, which had been hacked to pieces, were spotted near the Darna bridge along the Bhagur-Rahuri road at around 9.30 am.

The incident was immediately reported to the Deolali Camp police and the police control room in Nashik city. Senior police officers, including ACP (crime) Vasant More, ACP Siddheshwar Dhumal, senior inspector of the Deolali Camp police station Kundan Jadhav and other officers rushed to the incident spot to take stock of the situation and control the crowd of people and protestors who had gathered from Deolali Camp, Bhagur, Vijay Nagar and Rahuri areas. Leaders of different political parties and organizations also reached the incident spot. The protestors blocked the road affecting traffic movement between Bhagur and Pandhurli for nearly two hours.
However, senior police officers assured the protesters that the people responsible would soon be traced and strict action will be taken against them.
A senior police officer said, “Nakabandi has been deployed across the jurisdiction of the city police commissionerate. Prima facie, it appears a vehicle (from outside Nashik) was travelling on this road on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday, and people carrying the hacked animal parts just dumped the same near the river fearing police action.”
Officials said though the situation was tense, it was under control. Additional deployment has already been made in the area concerned along with places in Bhagur and Deolali Camp.
