The village

Cormicy is located in the northwestern part of the Champagne region, a short distance northwest of Reims. With its location at just north of 49° 22′ N, it is the northernmost of all villages within the Champagne appellation and wine region.

The Cormicy commune covers 2427 hectares and has 1467 inhabitants (as of 2016), referred to as Cormiciens and Cormiciennes.

Vineyards

The vineyards in Cormicy are located south of the village, west of the D530 road, on rather flat land with very mild slopes. Pinot Noir is the most common grape variety, although not by a wide margin.

At the edge of the built up area in the western part of the village, at 49° 22′ 08” N, we find the northernmost vineyard of this commune, and therefore of all Champagne. The southernmost is located in the Channes village in the Barséquanais area at 47° 56′ 43” N.

The current vineyard surface in the Cormicy commune is 56.7 hectares (140.1 acres). There are 24.4 ha Pinot Noir (43.0%), 19.7 ha Pinot Meunier (34.7%), and 12.6 ha Chardonnay (22.2%). Current information from CIVC as of 2019, refers to the situation a few years earlier. In 1997, the vineyard surface was 54 ha. There are 39 vineyard owners (exploitants) in the commune.

Single vineyard sites

Les Rachais is a vineyard site where Francis Boulard & Fille of Cauroy-lès-Hermonville has some of their vineyard holdings. They produce two vineyard-designated Champagnes from Les Rachais: a white 100% Chardonnay and a rosé saignée from 100% Pinot Noir.
