Three hundred sachet-water samples produced in Enugu and Onitsha namely: Aqua Rapha, Bejoy, Teck Tack, SO and Rock Tama were collected from six different batches. They were screened for the presence of faecal coliforms using standard microbiology techniques. Sachet- water samples contaminated with faecal coliforms were selected and tested for their susceptibility to fourteen different antibiotics by disc diffusion method. 80 (26.6%) were contaminated with faecal coliforms as follows: Aqua Rapha 25 (41.6%) specifically (Eschericha coli, Enterobacter and Klebsiella spp.), Rock Tama 1 (1.6%) (E. coli,), Bejoy 20 (33.3%) (E. coli, Enterobacter and Klebsiella spp.) , Teck Tack 9 (15%) (E. coli, Enterobacterand Klebsiella spp.), and SO 33 (55%) (E. coli, Enterobacter and Klebsiella spp). Susceptibility studies showed that E. coli was highly resistance to trimethroprim, sulphamethoxazole/trimethroprim, ampicillin, aztrenoman, ceftazidime, and cefpirome but susceptible to gentamicin, ciprof...

A Deep Learning Framework for Leukemia Cancer Detection in Microscopic Blood Samples Using Squeeze and Excitation LearningLeukemia is a fatal category of cancer-related disease that affects individuals of all ages, including children and adults, and is a significant cause of death worldwide. Particularly, it is associated with White Blood Cells (WBC), which is accompanied by a rise in the number of immature lymphocytes and cause damage to the bone marrow and/or blood. Therefore, a rapid and reliable cancer diagnosis is a critical requirement for successful therapy to raise survival rates. Currently, a manual analysis of blood samples obtained through microscopic images is done to diagnose this disease, which is often very slow, time-consuming, and less accurate. Furthermore, in microscopic analysis, the appearance and shape of leukemic cells seem very similar to normal cells which make detection more difficult. In the past decades, deep learning utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) has provided state-of-the-art approaches for image classification problems; however, there is still a gap to impr...

Coastal areas and other saline environments are major contributors to regional and global biodiversity patterns. In these environments, rapidly changing gradients require highly specialized plants like halophytes. In European coastal cliff-tops, rocky and sandy seashores, and saltmarshes, typical halophytes from the genus Limonium are commonly found. Among them, the aneuploid tetraploid (2n = 4x = 35, 36, 37) Limonium multiflorum, endemic to the west coast of Portugal, is an interesting case study for investigating the ecology and conservation of a halophyte agamospermic species. Although it is listed in the IUCN red list of threatened species, information on its population size or rarity, as well as its ecology, in some respects is still unknown. Field surveys in the largest known population were performed (Raso cape, Portugal) in order to determine habitat requirements and conservation status. A total of 88 quadrats were monitored, 43 of which contained at least one L. multiflorum...
Valvular heart disease is a growing public health problem, with an increasing prevalence due to an ageing population. Despite advances, the medical management of symptomatic valvular heart diseases remains suboptimal, necessitating surgical correction. The challenge remains in identifying an asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patient who will benefit from timely surgery before irreversible changes in cardiac function have occurred. The potential risks of surgery versus watchful expectancy require careful decision-making. This review is a focused update on the existing guidelines and identifies the knowledge gaps and avenues of future research in the management of patients with valvular heart diseases
