About the Author

Dolores Kong and Dan Ring have backpacked all 270 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Maine and have climbed virtually all the peaks that are 4,000 feet and higher in the Northeast. They are members of the White Mountains Four Thousand Footer, the New England Four Thousand Footer, the Adirondack 46Rs, the Northeast 111ers, and the New England Hundred Highest Clubs. A Barnard College graduate, Dolores is a Pulitzer Prize finalist in public service from her previous career as a staff writer at the Boston Globe. A Boston College graduate, Dan is a writer and has been a statehouse bureau chief in Boston for a variety of newspapers. Dan and Dolores are married and live in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire.

Acadia is my favorite place in the world and this book is my Acadian hiking bible. It's descriptions of hikes and the little maps accompanying them are very accurate and enticing. It gives good information about finding the trailheads. It covers the easiest to the most difficult hikes. The pictures are good. It is a major key to planning the exact hiking experience you want to have. You should also purchase a good map of the park and Mt. Desert Island. Then you're all set.

Great hiking book. Super helpful and accurate. Had one of my best hiking trips because I used this book for planning. Took the pages of the hike with me each day and felt safe on the trails and never got lost. Coastal hikes are breathtaking! My two suggestions for Acadia are Visit Bar Island and have a popover on Jordan’s Pond house lawn while hiking!
