Nobody beats out Huey Smith when it comes to rhythm and fun. Fats had that sense also, but Huey took it to the silly but sublime level with a heavy bottom sound that was both rhythmic and toe tapping. Even when Huey sings. "I don't belie ee ee ee eve that you lo uh uh ove me no more," it may signal the sad end of a relationship, but the sense of rhythm and fun makes you forget that in a big hurry. Piano, sax and drums clash it out with almost chant like singing that has never sounded better or more fun, ever, in the history of rock n roll and rhythm and blues music.
