The Kentucky Wildcats and new head coach Mark Pope are starting to make some noise in terms of roster building.

Tuesday morning, they received a commitment from former top-35 prospect Collin Chandler, who flipped his commitment from BYU to UK.

Now, they’re showing interest in a high-scoring transfer guard.

According to The Portal Report, Northern Illinois transfer guard David Coit has been in contact with the Cats.

Alongside Kentucky, he has also heard from TCU, Louisville, Utah, Washington State, and Oregon State.

Coit, a 5-foot-11 and 175-pound guard out of Columbus (NJ), has played two seasons for the Huskies and has averaged over 15 points per game in both.

This past season, the New Jersey native averaged 20.8 points on 40.7% shooting from the field and 33.7% from 3-point land. He also added 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.

A high-volume shooter overall, Coit saw his shots increase right around five per game this past season, which contributed to a lower shooting percentage from the field and from deep than his freshman season.

Going off his freshman numbers, in which he shot over 37% from deep, you can see how he is an attractive option for Mark Pope and this staff. Surround him with a bunch of shooters, and it is safe to assume those shooting numbers can grow quite a bit.

This recruitment still seems to be early, but it is obvious the Cats are looking to find the right players to come in and play the style Pope has had success with in his career.

Will Coit join the roster? He is definitely one to keep an eye on.
