In 1978, Callahan Industries of South Bethlehem, N.Y., was set to donate the old Karl Pandell farmhouse on Route 8 to the town of Cheshire. The farmhouse, built in 1791 in what was formerly the New Providence Plantation, was one of the oldest houses in Cheshire. Instead, the house was purchased by Richard L. Potter in 1980 and moved from North State Road (Route 8) to Fred Mason Road, where he planned to relocate and restore the 18th century home.
