Basement Jaxx jumps onto Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart at No. 25 with its first album in five years, Junto (2,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan). It’s the fifth top 10 for the heritage act, which first appeared on the chart with Rooty on July 14, 2001, two weeks after the chart’s June 30 launch.
“Never Say Never,” the first single from Junto, holds at No. 19 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. It sports remixes from Mark Knight and Tiesto & Moti, among others, and is on the cusp of the top spot on Dance Club Songs (3-2). The British duo’s last song to top the chart was “Bingo Bango” back in 2000.
‘BE’ No. 1: Clean Bandit’s breakthrough continues as “Rather Be” rolls to the No. 1 spot on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (3-1). It holds at its No. 12 peak on the all-format Radio Songs chart with an 8 percent lift to 69 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. The track also rises 3-2 in its fifth month in the top 10 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs, netting 4.2 million U.S. streams, the bulk of which are nearly evenly split between YouTube (48 percent) and Spotify (45 percent).
J-HIGH: Jennifer Lopez leaps to No. 1 on Dance Club Songs for the 15th time with “First Love” (2-1). She is now tied with Donna Summer for the seventh-most toppers in the chart’s 38-year history. Remixes from Reid Stefan, Syn Cole, and Cosmic Dawn, among others, aided the track’s march to the top. ‘FREE’ REIGN: Ariana Grande takes a triumvirate of chart honors on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in her third week at No. 1 with “Break Free.” The track, featuring Zedd, is the top Airplay, Digital, and Streaming Gainer. “Break” returns to No. 1, for a fifth total week, on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (118,000, up 84 percent).
No. 1 for a third week on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs, the song soars by 52 percent to 8.4 million, with 52 percent from Vevo views on YouTube. Although “Break” slips a notch on Radio Songs (10-11), it’s up by 13 percent to 73 million all-format audience impressions. It pushes 8-7 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, while maintaining its No. 7 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, where it regains its bullet; it rose to No. 4 on the Hot 100 two weeks ago.
FRANCIS FLIES: Dillon Francis takes the top debut on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (No. 19) and Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (No. 31; 5,000) with “I Can’t Take It.” Following “When We Were Young,” with Sultan & Ned Sheppard, and “Get Low,” with DJ Snake, “Take” is the third release from Francis’ Columbia Records debut, Money Sucks, Friends Rule, due Oct. 28. The album is set to include additional collaborations with Martin Garrix, Major Lazer, and the Presets. “Get Low” peaked at No. 13 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in March, while “Young” reached No. 36 two weeks ago.
