A major fire broke out in a small-to-medium enterprise building on the Dikberd business park in Herentals (Antwerp province) on Sunday morning.

The firefighters are on the scene, however, they have so far not managed to bring the blaze under control. The fire brigade confirmed the incident and issued a BE-Alert asking local residents to keep their windows and doors closed, and to turn off ventilation.

The alert about the fire came in around 07:00. "By the time firefighters arrived, flames were already coming out of the roof. There are multiple fire posts at the scene, and a water supply is being transported from the nearby Albert Canal. No injuries reported," said spokesperson Kristof Geens of the Kempen fire brigade.

The fire is creating significant smoke which is blowing towards the De Molekens district in Herentals. Another BE-Alert was issued reiterating the need for people to keep their windows and doors shut and to disable ventilation.

Four company units are located in the afflicted building, with the fire reportedly affecting at least two to three of them. It remains unclear where or how the fire started. Electric vehicles were stored in one of the units, which was able to be protected.
