Traditional village dining pub with rooms, The Sun Inn at Hook Norton in west Oxfordshire, is perfect for a cosy get together with friends, family or for a romantic escape. The building dates from 1849 and is built of local ironstone and lies at the heart of this picturesque village surrounded by gorgeous, unspoilt countryside.

Expect toasty fires, flagstone floors, quirky design touches and a spacious bar popular with locals supping local and guest beers, including Hook Norton ales (this historic brewery is a five minute walk away and is open for tastings and tours!. The Sun's unpretentious, well-priced and regularly-changing menus include seriously delicious and hearty, modern British dishes alongside elevated and comforting pub classics, a renowned Sunday roast and a children’s menu.

Head chef, Francesca Streatfield, showcases the best fresh, local, seasonal produce served across several comfortable dining spaces furnished with old leather armchairs, rustic oak tables and mismatched chairs, or outside on the paved sun terrace or in its extensive, lawned beer garden shaded by mature trees.

Above the pub on the first floor, seven, snug and very comfortable rooms with bucolic views over the village rooftops, the spire of St Peter’s church or the pub garden. Doubles and twin rooms, all en-suite, are decorated in muted tones with comforting touches and start from £75 a night on a B&B basis. There’s also a family room sleeping four. Dogs welcome to stay overnight in all rooms (£10 extra a night per dog).

The brainchild of owner and multi award-winning licensee, Mark Higgs, Freespirit Pubs was set up in 2019, and has since grown from two to six sites in the past four years. The Sun, taken on by Mark in 2017, continues to be a relaxed dining pub with rooms and welcoming community hub.
