Bhopal gets a stunning luxury hotel with unparalleled lakeviews

The brand new property is IHCL’s first in Bhopal
IHCL's new hotel The Taj Lakefront in Bhopal

In the heart of India in Bhopal, lies the serene Upper Lake or Bada Talaab. The sprawling lake—formerly known as Bhojtal—is said to have been built by the Paramara Raja Bhoj when he was king of Malwa between 1005 and 1055. Legend has it that the lake was created by bringing together 365 tributaries. Now, visitors can gaze out at the historical landmark that gave the city its name from IHCL’s newest address—The Taj Lakefront. With its magnificent view, the property, which stands at the edge of Bada Talaab, shows guests why Bhopal is known as “The city of lakes”.

Luxury with a touch of cultural heritage

A room in the hotel

The 152-room hotel boasts panoramic views of the lake and picturesque hills. Guests can pick between deluxe and luxury rooms as well as luxury suites with spacious living rooms, vanity rooms and private balconies. The Presidential Suite features interiors inspired by the begums and nawabs of a bygone era, with a living room, elegant dining area and a palatial master bedroom. The design of the hotel takes inspiration from local art and history, like Bhopal’s iconic zari work, terracotta art, the durrie-weaving of Sironj and the intricate paisley prints of Bagh.

There are two restaurants on the property. Machan—known for its multi-cuisine a la carte menu across Taj properties—offers a wide range of cuisines available for all-day dining. House of Ming brings the cooking styles of Sichuan and Canton to guests, all within an ambience reminiscent of a Chinese fàntīng or dining room. There is also Infiniti—the in-house bar—where guests can enjoy masterful cocktails created by mixologists, with a view of the Upper Lake. If you’re looking to grab a quick bite or simply leaf through a book with a coffee, opt for The Emperor Lounge, perfect for lazy afternoons and long conversations with loved ones.

Start your day with an energetic work-out at the modern Techno Gym, find your inner balance at the dedicated open space for yoga or simply unwind at the award-winning Jiva Spa. There is also an open-to-sky tennis court for a friendly game, and an infinity pool and jacuzzis on the 10th floor that looks out to expansive lake views. If you’re looking to step out, the city’s main attractions are not too far. Visit the Van Vihar National Park, the National Museum of Humankind and the Taj-ul-Masajid—India’s largest and Asia’s seventh largest mosque—to take in the rich culture of the city.
