Caibarién, also known as Villa Blanca, is a fishing village in the northwest province of Villa Clara, Cuba. In recent years, the town has been deemed an affordable accommodation spot by tourists on their way to the Cayos del Norte (Northern Keys). The village is also known for its 48-kilometre-long Pedraplén, which connects the main island with the Cayo Santa María (Santa Mary Keys).

Caibarién has always been closely linked to the sea as it is a town rich in shipping traditions. Visitors can hop on a fishing boat and taste a freshly caught crab in one of the town’s picturesque restaurants. And on every 24th of December visitors can take part in Caibarién’s Las Parrandas festivities. The festivities are a tradition shared by both the fishing village and the neighbouring Remedios, although the Caibarién’s celebration is considered somewhat less noisy.

The village is also home to the Museo de Agroindustria Azucarera Marcelo Salado (Marcelo Salado Sugar Industry Museum), housed inside a restored sugar mill. The museum offers a number of attractions: pieces of original machinery, a collection of steam locomotives, which includes one of the largest in Latin America, videos about this important Cuban industry, and a restored Malecón (boardwalk) and Estatua del Cangrejo (crab statue), recognized as a symbol of the town.

However, the most iconic site in the city is the famous Pedraplén. The titanic viaduct made up of 45 bridges and standing at a height of 48 kilometres connects the town of Caibarién with the Cayo Santa María. This construction is the largest roadway in the world. It allows visitors easy access to the beautiful beaches in the Cayos de Villa Clara (Villa Clara Keys).
