NAIA Central-West ITA Regional Championships
SALINA, Kan. – The Bulldogs traveled to Salina, Kansas and competed in the NAIA Central-West ITA Regional Championships the past few days (Sept. 24-26). The women’s team took Chakira Derman, Tessa Blough, Alana Lopez Pagan and Mariana Molano Canon to compete in the tournament.
No. 8 seed Charika Derman won in a contest over Nikoleta Aleksic (6-4, 6-1). Derman, the talented transfer, fell in her second match to Paulina Hudson in a 2-6, 6-2 (4-10 tiebreak). Alana Lopez Pagan, who was the only other Bulldog who competed in singles, dropped her match to Daniela Casique (6-0, 6-2).
Tessa Blough and Lopez Pagan started off the doubles matches for the Bulldogs, and met tough competition in their match losing to No. 8 seed Priyanshi Sharma and Isidora Hrnjak (8-5). Blough and Lopez Pagan fell in a highly contested match to No. 9 seed Isabella Ellerbee and Vanessa Hofer in a 7-6 (7-2 tiebreak).
No. 15 Derman and Mariana Molano Canon dropped their match against Paulina Hudson and Pauline Celedonio (8-2).
Concordia will travel to Liberty, Mo. for their first dual against William Jewell College on Saturday (Oct. 7). This will be their last match of the fall season and it kicks off at 12 p.m. CT.
