Kundapur, Jul 24: Rivers create mesmerizing waterfalls as they flow from the hills to the sea. A similar scenic waterfall lies in the thick forests in which Varahi river flows. It is none other than Thombattu waterfalls.

It is not surprising that many tourists are not aware of this falls which at Macchattu village, 10 km from Hosangadi. This waterfall, which lies between steep valley and thick forest is attractive to look at during monsoon. As it is inside the reserve forest, there is restriction to access it.

Thombattu falls looks like three steps. As the water flows from height on the rocks which appear like steps. It creates a rich foam which resembles cream of milk. The view is feast to the eyes. The river flows like a small stream of water that arrives from a cross route and then falls down. As the lower level is too low it increases the scenic beauty of these falls. Later this stream flows inside huge trees before merging into the sea.

Only during monsoon, one can relish the nature’s gift of Thombattu falls as the force of water increases. Mostly local residents arrive at this picturesque spot. The Forest department has given many alerts in the area to public like not to consume alcohol, swim in the water etc. During monsoon, the rocks are slippery. So caution is needed while taking the steps. A little off balance will be fatal. Moreover, the way is steep. One has walk in mud slime road for about 1.5 km.

Thombattu falls is at a distance of 35 km through Kundapur-Siddapur route. From Hosangadi if one goes via KPTCL road and cover Macchattu Thombattu road through bridge, one can reach the falls. The best time to visit the spot is the three month period of monsoon.

Its amazing place in the middle of the jungle. It is near to the Kerekatte St Antony Shrine. In summer if you continue in that road, you will get a chance to drive through the stream. In monsoon its dangerous to drive thru that stream. we enjoyed a lot. but care to be taken.
