Thomas Vincent Burdett, 93, passed on to heaven in the early morning hours of November 15, 2022, into the waiting arms of his dear departed wife, Patricia. Tom was born January 22, 1929 in Kansas City, MO and was a lifelong Kansas Citian. Tom was a 1948 graduate of Westport High School and served in the US Naval Reserves.
Tom sat on the Kansas City Board of Trade for 30 years as a buyer and seller of grain for Archer Daniels Midland. Over those years he became quite familiar with all of the grain elevator operators around town and also the railroads that delivered crops from farms to those elevators. Tom became friends with hundreds of farmers that dotted the midwestern four-state area. Over the years he became a well-recognized trader at the KC Board of Trade. Also, he and his wife, Pat, owned The Gladstone Bar in the old Northeast area of Kansas City, MO for more than 50 years. Tom would often show up Friday evenings at The Gladstone with a sprig of wheat or kernels of corn in his jacket pocket, having just returned from a visit to, maybe, Salina, KS, to look at a farmer's crop.
For the last eight years, since wife Pat passed away, Tom has been a member of the Elks Lodge #26 and made many new friends there.
Tom and Patricia Burdett had five children during their 60 years of marriage. All five survive him and mourn the loss of their beloved Dad. They are Michael Burdett (Diana) of Kansas City, MO; Kathy Snow (Bill, deceased) of Liberty, MO; Margaret Colle (John) of Blue Springs, MO; Mary Swope (Greg) of Olathe KS, and Christine Sparks (Sam) of Overland Park, KS. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
