Fairport
The Fun-loving Village of Fairport is located along the Heart of the historic Erie Canal District within the Town of Perinton, just south of Rochester.
From its earliest days, the convenience of the waterway helped transform what had once been known as Perrinsville into what was often noted by passing travelers as a very "fair port” for an overnight stay. When the railroad came to Fairport in 1853, it helped make this growing community even stronger and into one of the leading centers of transportation and industry of its time in Upstate New York.
Today, shipping barges and packet boats that once navigated the historic Erie Canal have been replaced by recreational craft, canoes, kayaks, and tour boats. Original mule towpaths alongside serve as trails for bikers, joggers, and walkers, and the busy hub of railroad tracks survive with a recreated train station that you can visit. For those traveling across NY State by water, Fairport offers modern overnight docking facilities with all the amenities and helpful dockmasters on duty during the boating season.
Bedecked with quiet, tree lined streets, lovely waterside views, specialty shopping and front-porch friendliness, the Village of Fairport is small-town charm at its finest. Yet, it is just a few miles from the exciting and cultural metropolis of Rochester, craft breweries and wineries. Fairport is also host to the renowned Canal Days, which attracts more than 400 arts and crafts exhibitors from all over the United States and tens of thousands of visitors each June.
