Canada’s Walk of Fame will be rocking in September when 13 of the country’s biggest musical acts from the 1970s and ’80s are enshrined in the institution’s first “mega” induction.

The inductees include April Wine, Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Lighthouse, Loverboy, Max Webster, Michel Pagliaro, Platinum Blonde, PRISM, Rough Trade, The Parachute Club and Trooper.

The induction ceremony, which is part of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Canada’s Walk of Fame, has been dubbed Canada’s Rock of Fame and will take place at Toronto’s historic Massey Hall on September 28.

The Canada’s Walk of Fame inductees announced Tuesday include: (top row) April Wine; Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Lighthouse; (middle row) Loverboy, Max Webster, Michel Pagliaro, Platinum Blonde, PRISM; (bottom row) Rough Trade, The Parachute Club and Trooper.

According to a press release, “All 13 rock legends will be in attendance during this unforgettable night featuring live performances of the hits that music lovers have enjoyed for decades, special guests, a reunion of Canadian DJ legends, and more.”

“What a place to find out that you’ve finally, after 35 years, been awarded a place on Canada’s Walk of Fame,” Alan Frew, 66, the lead singer of Glass Tiger, said in a video reaction to the news alongside his bandmates while on the road in Edmonton. “On behalf of Chris, Al, myself and Sam, we can’t thank you enough and we look forward to seeing you in September. What a great honour.”

“I am almost speechless,” Lee Aaron, 60, said in her own reaction video provided to Canada’s Walk of Fame. “If you’d told this kid from Brampton 40-plus years ago that I would still be making music, never mind getting an honour such as this, I don’t know what I would have said. I am so honoured and so grateful. Thank you.”

More information about the Massey Hall induction ceremony, and the performers involved, will be announced in the weeks ahead, though tickets for the event go on sale on July 14.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Rock of Fame will be the first of two Canada’s Walk of Fame induction events marking the institution’s 25th year. The second induction ceremony, taking place in December, features honourees including comedian Rick Mercer, NHL star Connor McDavid, the Degrassi TV franchise, human rights advocate and retired Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella and Dr. Brenda Milner, described as “Canada’s preeminent neuropsychologist” who, at age 104, is the oldest living inductee in Canada’s Walk of Fame history.
