Jazz Musician. Considered by many as being one of the greatest trumpeters of his time, he is most noted for the Grammy Award-winning album "First Light" (1971). He studied at the Jordan Conservatory of Music and later worked with local musicians Wes and Monk Montgomery. In 1958, he moved to New York City where he performed with Sonny Rollins. A few years later he would be touring Europe with Quincy Jones. During the 1960s, he widened his popularity as a featured member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Among his other notable albums are "Blue Spirits" (1965), "Red Clay" (1970), "Sky Dive" (1973) and "Life Flight" (1987). Other revered artists Hubbard worked with include John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and George Benson. He died of complications from a heart attack he suffered a month earlier.
