Based on the concept of the character of a typical Hampshire village fira’s design sets the backdrop to this new community.
A thorough analysis of local villages revealed character and detail and unique to this part of Hampshire. Following our own design code, and in close consultation with the future resident Service families, we prepared a masterplan that creates a strong framework of public realm. This included a network of lanes connecting informal squares and courtyards that provide the structure of the new village, and create a distinctive sense of place.
One of the key features of the landscape design is the quantity of communal open space, and the high quality evident within the village squares, which include a variety of play areas for different age groups. This network of open space reinforces the village masterplan, and extensive areas of structure planting mitigate the scale of the development, providing both enclosure and privacy where required.
The project was procured as a develop and construct contract, and Fira was retained as the client’s representative to check and monitor the contractor’s compliance with the landscape drawings and specifications.
