U2’s New Single Has Become A Hit On 10 Different Billboard Charts

Following

U2 is on a successful streak lately with their current single “Atomic City.” The tune was a quick win for the band the moment it was released, but in the weeks since it dropped, it hasn’t diminished much in popularity. In fact, the tune has continued to perform well, rising the ranks thanks to strong radio support and interest from fans in the latest from one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

“Atomic City” has not only become a hit—it has succeeded on many different important rankings. The tune has reached 10 different Billboard charts, and it’s become a noticeable smash for the group on many of them.

Looking at all-encompassing charts—those which are compiled using streaming, sales, and radio play data—“Atomic City” has only reached two such lists. The tune broke into the top 40 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs ranking, peaking at No. 38. It performed better on the less-competitive Hot Alternative Songs tally, where it rose to No. 20.

“Atomic City” was a strong seller when it first arrived, and those fans who rushed to buy a copy of the tune immediately helped push it to several Billboard rankings. The song appeared on the Digital Song Sales, Rock Digital Song Sales, and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts—which are all different lists.

The same smash has become a real hit across a variety of radio formats. “Atomic City” has now appeared on five different lists published by Billboard that focus only on radio spins. U2’s latest has reached the Rock and Alternative Airplay, Mainstream Rock Airplay, Alternative Airplay, and Adult Alternative Airplay charts. In a somewhat surprising move, given how popular the tune has been in the rock world, it has also broken onto the Adult Pop Airplay list as well.

This type of showing isn’t a first, but it also isn’t seen very often. For the same song to reach 10 Billboard charts, it must sell well and be put into heavy rotation at radio stations across the U.S. The success of “Atomic City” is thanks in part to the fact that it fits onto several different rankings that fall under the rock umbrella.

In theory, “Atomic City” could continue to break onto other Billboard charts in the coming weeks, depending on how well it performs. It has yet to appear on any streaming-focused rankings, and it might land on one or two if it picks up on platforms like Spotify and Apple AAPL Music. The tune also hasn’t reached the Hot 100, and while that seems like a long shot at this point, it’s certainly not impossible.
