Built in the middle of vineyards, between volcanoes Monts Ramus, scrubland and Hérault river Bessan is mainly an agricultural village that long profited Wine aramon and alcohols obtained from a high-performance plain. Wines and spirits were shipped from its port.

Located less than 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, Bessan now attracts tourists looking for quiet. It is also popular for its charming historic center, a thousand years old, for its rich traditions of festivals, dinner dances offered for the summer at the Guinguette and under the poplars, or for tours of the center Ricard development and Cactus Park.

Placed at the exit of a highway, interested, finally, more and more companies that should bring him prosperity through the agglomeration Herault Mediterranean community.

Things to see and do

You will find many nice and quiet places for relaxation, but also a heritage that will charm the amateurs of history, legends and folklore including the donkey, totemic animal that is at the center of the festivities of Saint Laurent.

The site occupied by the Greeks since the VI BC. BC made Bessan one of the oldest cities in France with Marseille and Beziers! In the Middle Ages, the agglomeration which is slightly shifted to the north, form a castrum (or fortified village). Today, the Bessans heritage is built around a historic center mainly composed of the Saint-Pierre church and its remarkable Romanesque apse, the door St Pierre (drawbridge), facades of some hotels individuals eighteenth century and Bladier mill remains of the thirteenth century located on the banks of the Hérault river.
