Small town of Vienne, not far from the Regional Natural Park of Brenne, Lussac-les-Châteaux takes place at about thirty kilometers from Poitiers, not far from Mazerolles. It is located ten kilometers from Montmorillon, city book, near Verrières, Civaux and Persac.
Occupied since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the many traces of art in the area, the territory of Lussac-les-Châteaux developed in the Middle Ages around its castle. Sacked by the troops of Admiral de Coligny in the sixteenth century, the latter will then be dismantled by the population to rebuild homes. The arrival of the railway in the nineteenth century will allow the town to connect to the surroundings and take the face we know today.
Appreciated for its architectural and historical heritage, the town of Lussac-les-Châteaux also seduces visitors with its gastronomic specialties. It is indeed part of the production areas of several AOC and IGP such as Charentes-Poitou butter, Limousin veal, Bayonne ham or Deux-Sèvres butter.
Several listed sites or classified as Historical Monuments can be admired on the town like the ruins of the medieval castle with its drawbridge, or the Hermitage.
Classified since the second half of the twentieth century, the cave of the Marche reveals many representations of human beings, including the walking man, but also cave lions. On site, several tools of flint and ornaments were found. Several other caves of interest are also visible in the area.
Located in the Grand Logis of the Renaissance, the Municipal Museum of Prehistory has 360 m² of permanent exhibition with engraved Magdalenian stones, prehistoric furniture, tools, ornaments, or bones found in the nearby caves. Labeled Museum of France, it is divided into five distinct spaces, the discoverers, the Paleolithic environment, the sites and their archaeological furniture, the way of life of the men of Bois-Ragot, and the man and the art. The museum also offers temporary and thematic exhibitions, guided tours, as well as courses dedicated to the youngest. Outside, it is also possible to discover totems placed in front of archaeological sites to better understand the history and interest of places.
Lovers of outdoor life will be able to take several paths leading them to natural sites of great interest such as the Lussac forest, the hillsides, the Etang de l'Hermitage, the Font Serin cave, or the L 'wood. Hospice. A leisure center is also located on the banks of the Vienne for the practice of water sports for example.
- The market is held every Friday morning. A fair is also offered every first Thursday of each month.
- A flea market is organized on the banks of the pond every second Sunday of June. Another flea market is offered at the leisure center on the first Sunday of October.
- In August, place in the horse show for professionals and amateurs.
