Maubourguet is an emblematic municipality of the Val d'Adour, which has 1 flower in the Villages Fleuris classification. Its geographical location places it in an ideal position for vacationers who will be spoiled for choice between the mountains, the beaches of the Atlantic and the serenity inherent in a relaxing stay in the heart of nature.
The terroir here is authentic because it has retained over the years a strong identity, inherited from the long history of the village and its region. The green plains, the limpid streams which bring together fishing lovers, the summer festivals around bullfighting without forgetting the Maubourguet Meetings which bring together artists and sportsmen every year. Everything here is only an invitation to relax or, for the more courageous, to a sporting activity on the paths of Compostela or on the banks of the Adour.
Maubourguet has always been a stage town on the roads to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. It has become the crossroads of two paths: the GR 653 running towards Compostela and the GR 101 heading towards Lourdes.
Listed as a Historic Monument, the Church of the Assumption dates from the 11th century. Located in the heart of the city, it once served as a stopover for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The building takes place on the remains of ancient religious buildings dating from the Neolithic, Gallo-Roman or Carolingian times. Partly modified in the 14th century, the Church of the Assumption has very old parts in the choir and the apse, and allows to admire a southern portal of the 12th century finely carved.
Not to be missed, the archaeological museum. In addition to the mosaic and its incredible iconographic richness, updated in 1979, the museum also contains a large number of remains and archaeological objects discovered in the canton. Unique in its kind in the department, it is the must-see museum.
As you stroll through the town, you will appreciate the town hall inspired by ancient architecture and dating from the mid-19th century, or the association house dating from the 18th century.
The market hall, with its Baltard-style metal umbrella structure, is also one of the city's most beautiful monuments.
Lovers of Landes and novillada races will be able to visit the arenas of Maubourguet which are regularly the scene of very lively shows.
Labeled "Remarkable Garden", the Seigneury of Maubourguet, private domain, opens its doors in the summer season from the end of May to the end of September. You can browse the garden on your own and at your own pace. If you prefer a guided tour, this is also possible by specifying it. Allow a good hour for the visit. However, it is recommended to call +33 5 62 96 40 55 before your visit. La Seigneurie de Maubourguet welcomes you all year round only by phone call and by appointment.
The market is held every Tuesday morning in the central hall.
Every year on the 3rd weekend of August, the festivals and Meetings of Maubourguet, the Landes and Novillada races take place.
