The bastide of Saint Aulaye en Périgord, founded in 1288 by Lord Pierre Brémond, as attested by the charter exposed to the town hall, is located on a border land with Angoumois, Saintonge and Bordeaux. Atypical bastide perched on a limestone hillside overlooking the Dronne valley, its history begins to be written around the river, then the church and finally the castle and its castrum. The urban extensions with hall (demolished in 1862) and common ovens are organized in the west. The Sainte-Eulalie church, the Rizonne bridge, the banal ovens, the castle and the ramparts bear witness to a rich medieval past.
Its circuit has been one of the "10 most beautiful trails in Périgord" since 2020.
A "Terra Aventura" treasure hunt also allows you to discover the country house in a fun way by solving puzzles in order to unearth the hide where the Poïz are.
Saint Aulaye-Puymangou, land of Cognac in Périgord... Saint Aulaye-Puymangou has belonged to the AOC Cognac since the creation of the appellation in 1909. The town decided to plant vines in 1999 to produce cognac and preserve the appellation. In 2014, the cognac was distilled at Maison Camus and then aged in the cellars of the castle. It has been on sale at the Town Hall and the shops of the town since 2019.
