A Historic Belgian Castle Near Liège

Château d'Argenteau was built on the ruins of a castle from the 10th century, which was besieged in 1347 and finally razed in 1674 by the troops of Louis XIV.  The current château was built in 1683 and belonged to the family of the Counts of Mercy-Argenteau.

For the last 18 years, the château has become an elegant pleasure residence of a wealthy Dutch man, a wealthy banker and stockbroker, who is reported to be in his 70s and looking to focus on his properties closer to home.

Altered in the neoclassical style, the castle offers 40 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, and  26,909 square feet of interior space, with several grand reception rooms, each with a fireplace. The entire property features stunning period detail, and comes with a carriage house and orangerie on the property.

Spanning over 222 acres, the château offers an idyllic setting in the countryside, with French gardens and private woodland.

Just 15 minutes away from the center of Liège and Maastricht, the dreamy property offers plenty of potential to become a boutique hotel.
