Police have issued a warning to motorists after a controversial one-way system was repeatedly breached.

Clack Hill at Bradenstoke was converted into a one-way system in order to reduce traffic conflict in the village, following the collapse of the B4069 at Lyneham Banks.

But residents have often expressed anger at continued breaches of this traffic order, with an Asda delivery van recently pictured driving the wrong way up the hill.

Police attended the junction at Clack Hill on the morning of Monday, June 19, after reports people had been ignoring the system because the one-way signage was missing.

But officers found the signage to still be in place, and urged road users to not attempt to access Bradenstoke via Clack Hill.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers attended and confirmed that signage is in place and very visible.

“Please do not attempt to go up the hill to Bradenstoke as the one-way system is still in place along with the road closure of the B4069 through to Lyneham.”

Breaches of the one-way order have attracted strong criticism from locals in the past.

Wiltshire councillor for Lyneham Allison Bucknell said: “They seem to think they can get away with it because enforcement is difficult there… certain people think they are a law unto themselves.”
