Clack Hill: Police catch drivers ignoring one-way system

Clack Hill in Bradenstoke has been a one-way road since October last year, as part of a scheme to manage traffic following the collapse of the B4069 at Lyneham Banks.

Motorists are only permitted to travel down the hill, from the village towards Dauntsey Lock, with a no-entry sign at the bottom of the hill warning people not to drive up the road.

The system has proved controversial with residents claiming that drivers regularly travel the wrong way up the road, and police have recently received multiple reports of the rules being broken.

In response to this, local officers carried out static patrols on the hill at 5am on Wednesday, November 8, to try and catch motorists going in the wrong direction.

Police warned they will continue to patrol the area.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We would like to remind motorists that it is an offence to contravene a no-entry sign, which results in a fine and three points on your license.

“We will continue conducting random and robust checks at this location so please continue to comply with the traffic regulation order and find an alternative route. Thank you.”
