Elma Green Davis, the daughter of the late Jacob and Elsie Vince Green, was born on September 19, 1921 in Shulerville, South Carolina. She was educated in the Berkeley County School System.

On December 26, 1937, Mother Elma was united in holy wedlock to Talmah Davis. They shared sixty-five beautiful years of love and marriage. This union was blessed with three wonderful daughters. Her husband and one daughter, Lula Davis Johnson, preceded her in death.

Mother Elma was a woman of impeccable faith and long service to her family, church, and community. She was a true Christian who was a friend to many. She was a lifelong member of Wesley AME Church where she accepted Christ on May of 1937 and joined Class #10 currently Class #9. Since that time, Mother Elma became a member of the Senior Choir, President of the Praying Band, Treasurer of the Church School, member of the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS), Trustee Board, Steward Board, Custodial Staff, and Stewardess Board #2. She served as the first Women’s Day Celebration Chairperson. She received many awards, including the WMS Unsung Heroine Award and the Wesley AME Mother of the Year Award.

Mother Elma enjoyed attending Bible Study where she often opened the devotion with her favorite song, “Come by Here, Lord”. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 27 and John 14:1-3. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering faith in God.

Mother Elma received her greatest reward Monday afternoon, December 21, 2020, when her Lord said to her, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord’.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted daughters, Dorothy Richardson, and Bernadine Anderson; three grandchildren, Arnold E. Johnson, Karen (Clyde) Bagley, and Tanja George; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
