Help Jameela study abroad in Ecuador!

Greetings Family, Friends, and Strangers,
My name is Jameela Alexander, I am 22 years old and I am from Baltimore, Maryland. I have created this gofundme to support my 10-day immersive doula program in the region of Cotacachi in northern Ecuador. This program is focused on gathering birth professionals from around the world so that they may learn from the indigenous midwives of the region. I have been blessed enough to be invited on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, but I need help getting there.
I am working on obtaining my associate's in nursing. Upon completion, I will become a registered nurse then attend midwifery school to become a CMA. I have completed my birth doula education training in the summer of 2020 and this summer I will be accepting new clients (follow @doulajah on Instagram for updates and more information). I am hopeful that this trip will give me the knowledge, skills, and courage to be able to start my work in the birthing world.
My overall mission is to be full of knowledge from the medical and holistic sides of birthing so that I am able to assist my clients in the best way possible for them to have a happy and safe delivery. To be able to learn from indigenous midwives will provide me with knowledge on birthing that I will use for the rest of my life and be able to share with other birth workers

What is a Doula?
a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a birther before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

What is a Midwife?
Midwives are the traditional care providers for mothers and infants. Midwives are trained professionals with expertise and skills in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period. Midwives provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs.

The United States of America is ranked 49th in maternal health, with Black women of this country being over 3 times as likely to passway from complications with childbirth. One of the main solutions to lessen this rate is to provide more Doula care.

Below you may find more information on Doulas and how hiring one will reduce the chance of a cesarean or any other medical intervention.
