A little dated but some really great descriptions of this specific area in the southern sierra mountains. Golden trout are extremely rare so this area is protected and also somewhat isolated. There is a really great introduction into the area about the flora and fauna and some brief history. The maps are not in color and could be better but the book is over 10 years old so i didn't expect much. There is a nice elevation graph for each hike which is very helpful. I've been in the surrounding areas but not the golden trout wilderness, one day soon I hope to hike there. I would buy this book if I venture out there since there is not a lot of literature on this specific area.

Another great Falcon Guide for recreational backpackers and day hikers, this one focuses on the southern Sierra Nevadas with 43 trails varying in distance from a few miles to a brief discussion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Note: This is not a comprehensive guide about the Pacific Crest Trail. Once again, I love the elevation charts, directions, and trail descriptions. Highly recommended to anyone who lives and hikes in California's Central Valley or in the vicinity of Hwy 395 from Olancha to Lone Pine.
