The Swingin Medallions on stage

If you haven’t gotten a chance to experience the FREE Statesboro concert series, this next band is the perfect opportunity to come out and enjoy some music. The Swingin’ Medallions will be on the Bulloch County Courthouse Lawn on July 6th at 6PM.

The Swingin’ Medallions are “a Southern tradition,” to quote the band’s website. When the sound of the horns, drums, and guitar all come together to create a sound full of energy, they’re sure to get any and everyone up on their feet.

The band was founded in 1962 by John McElrath and became famous thanks to the hit album  “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” which sold 1.5 million copies in 1966. The group lay claim to several other hits, such as “She Drives Me Out of My Mind,” and “Hey, Hey Baby.”

The Swingin Medallions have had several notable performances; from country ambassadors, to Governors, they’ve played for several notable figures. In 2004, they performed at the Gator Bowl Half-Time Show.  In 2009, The Swingin’ Medallions joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to perform “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love” at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, South Carolina. The band has even been featured on television shows and in movies.

The band has continued on for nearly 65 years, and Shane and Shawn McElrath, sons of John McElrath, are proud to keep the music going.

Make sure to practice your best dance moves before the fabulous Swingin’ Medallions come into town on July 6th!
