A league table ranking the ‘unhealthiest places in the UK’ has named North Killingholme as the country’s second worst offender.

Researchers at the University of Liverpool scored  neighbourhoods on their access to fast food outlets, off licences, boozers and proximity to health services, parks and recreational spaces.

Their ‘lifestyle and environmental measures’ also include air pollution statistics from the Environment Agency, but do not include proximity to open fields – which surround North Killingholme.

Senior lecturer in health geography, Dr Mark Green said: “The statistics reveal important insights about the concentration of certain amenities that may be damaging or promote health.

“These statistics reveal troubling issues with the neighbourhoods we live in and how they may be damaging to our health.”

Their interactive map ranks North Killingholme as the ‘worst performing decile’ with 10 points (or 51 per cent).

In comparison, areas in Immingham were ranked with nine points (or 29 per cent), Scartho with seven (or 23 per cent), Humberston with six (or 20 per cent) and Waltham with five (or 19 per cent).
