Annie Lennox and her daughter, fellow musician Lola Lennox, will perform a stunning duet of Simon & Garfunkel this weekend as part of a virtual fundraising event, raising funds for post-Covid relief work in India.

More than 100 stars from the worlds of film, music, comedy, and sports, will join for a three-hour virtual fundraiser We For India: Saving Lives, Protecting Livelihoods, which will be broadcast globally on Facebook on Sunday, August 15th at 3pm.

Activist Lennox and 30-year-old Lola are teaming up for an exclusive performance of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". "There is not one country in the world that hasn’t been impacted by the Covid pandemic. The fight to reduce infection and 'flatten the curve' is still well beyond reach of many nations and India has lain at the epicentre of this challenge," Lennox said in a statement.

"We are all citizens of Planet Earth, therefore as a global citizen it is an honour and privilege to take part in the 'We For India' event - putting a special emphasis on the 'We'!"

Lola added: "It's an honour to perform at the global broadcast for We For India. Music has a power that unites and inspires, and I hope that the musical contributions in this event moves viewers into supporting this urgent cause. This is an opportunity to raise funds that are so needed to tackle the long-term impact of the Covid-19 devastation in India. To witness the population uniting behind this significant cause, gives me hope that if we try, we can make the future a better place."

Proceeds from the event will be used to provide critical facilities such as oxygen concentrators, cylinders, ventilators, and essential medicines as well as ICU units.

Funds will also go towards supporting the staffing of vaccination centres. Funds will also be mobilised to support long-term public recovery and rebuild livelihoods such as those thrust into poverty due to a decline in earnings and complete loss of income.

Humanitarian efforts in the form of meal and ration kits will be provided to the rural and urban families hit financially by the pandemic. Cash relief will be provided to families who have lost an immediate member.

Natasha Mudhar, Founder of The World We Want said: "The world has been stunned by stories of families torn apart by the loss of loved ones and businesses forced to close, plunging thousands into poverty.

"We believe in the power that lies in global solidarity when everyone, everywhere comes together in a collective effort to create change. Leveraging the power of popular culture, we hope We For India will entertain and inspire action, encouraging the global population to act now to raise vital funds to not only save lives but to restore, rebuild, and renew lives devastated by the crisis."

We For India will include video messages of support from A-List stars, stand-up comedy and musical performances, interactions with frontline heroes, immersive fitness challenges, games, and more, streamed to homes as the world joins hands in solidarity and unity with the people of India.

Other stars taking part will include Mick Jagger, Ed Sheeran, Jay Shetty, Nancy Ajram, and Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary.
