The Country Office of Uruguay supports the government's plan to achieve inclusive, sustainable growth, with an emphasis on creating quality jobs, incorporating a gender and social inclusion perspective, and considering the use of digital technologies.

The IDB is the main source of international financing in the country. The national authorities and the Bank have identified the following strategic areas of cooperation:

(i) public resource management;

(ii) sustainable productive development;

(iii) equity and social inclusion.

These areas will be addressed by incorporating a gender and social inclusion perspective, an environmental perspective, and considering the use of digital technologies. Opportunities for the private sector windows have been identified in the following sectors: energy and climate change, infrastructure, and financing of the export sector and SMEs (especially in the area of ​​agribusiness).

Uruguay is one of the founding member countries of the IDB. Like all the shareholders, Uruguay appoints a Governor, who represents the country on the Board of Governors.

For day-to-day business at the Bank's Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Uruguay is represented by a chair on the Board of Executive Directors. The chair, shared with Bolivia and Paraguay, is headed by an Executive Director, who is elected to a three-year term by the Governors of Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Country strategies remain valid for one year beyond the stated period, as they remain active throughout the preparation of the following strategy.
