Clusone is called the “painted city” for its numerous fresco and is rich in history and art. Its well-preserved historic centre is irregularly arranged on four levels and is characterised by a singular and labyrinthine crossing of streets and minor roads.

A visit by foot offers continued surprises: from the town summit dominated by the majestic basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, until the fulcrum of the town in Piazza dell’Orologio, among little palaces with fifteenth century frescos, stone portals, loggias, cloisters, courtyards and fountains.

What not to missThe Fangazo Planetary Clock, located in the medieval tower of the town hall, is still manually winded daily. The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, preceded by a scenographic double-ramp staircase and flanked by an arcade, with valuable works by A. Fantoni.

The oratory of Chastisement, with the famous frescos “Macabre Dance” and “The Triumph of Death”. The Biscotto di Clusone, with almonds and chocolate, produced since 1920.
