WITH a single release this week, a new album next month and endless tour dates lined up, things have never been better for Villagers. The Malahide-based outfit capped an incredible year last week with a slot on the coveted BBC show 'Later With Jools Holland' and are set for even bigger stages.

Conor O'Brien and co release their 'Becoming A Jackal' single this Friday, April 23rd, the first offering from the debut album of the same name, which is set for a Friday, May 14th unveiling - the only Irish artist ever to sign with the Domino label.

'Becoming a Jackal' introduces listeners to Villagers' vivid narratives, gripping poetry and melodic depth, while O'Brien's clear and distinctive voice weaves a remarkable spell, delivering an album of rare, alarming beauty. Having just returned from France, Villagers play another continental show in Holland this week, before a whistle-stop tour of England.

They've

also announced a four-date headline tour of Ireland to coincide with the album release, with shows scheduled at Kilkenny's Set Theatre, Cyprus Avenue in Cork, Galway's Roisín Dubh, and The Button Factory in Dublin, between May 19th and 23rd.

It's been a remarkable 12 months for the former Immediate frontman, O'Brien, who has already opened for the likes of Neil Young and Tracy Chapman.

With a summer of festivals in front of them and the most eagerly-anticipated album of the year about to hit the shelves, it may not be too long before Villagers are the ones topping the bill at the biggest stages.
