St Clether is a pretty village and parish in the north of Bodmin Moor through which the Inney River flows on its way to join the Tamar.
St Clether parish church is dedicated to St Clederus, who is believed to have been one the 24 children of King Broccan of Breconshire.
The Holy Well, dedicated to the saint from whom the parish gets its name is situated in a beautiful valley of the River Inney, a short walk from the church in a most tranquil and peaceful setting. Sheep can often be found grazing here and disappear into the bracken when disturbed.
The well building is the largest in Cornwall. The water passes from the spring which is covered by a small stone building, to the chapel where it flows through the building before leaving through the south wall to make its way to the Inney.
There are 5 stone Cornish crosses in the parish, three of which have public access and the others, can be seen from the minor road or public footpath. All wheel-headed wayside crosses, one stands beside the road a short distance from Lower Basil Farm, another at a crossroads known as Cross Gates and the final one, New Park Cross is near Trevillians Gate.
