TUCKERMAN, Ark.- Officials in the city of Tuckerman say the only grocery store is preparing to shut its doors.

Bill’s Fresh Market is closing after 20 years.

For two decades, it’s been the only place in town to buy fresh produce and meats.

Tuckerman’s mayor says he’s sad to see the business go.

“We’ve got a lot of elderly folks that don’t drive out of town,” Mayor Rick Womack says. “They are probably 65-70 and most of them don’t like to go to Newport, so they like to have a store locally, so we really need this.”

People in Tuckerman will now have to make the trip to the nearest town, Newport, to buy their groceries.

Womack says anyone interested in opening a store in Tuckerman should consider it.
