VanDyke Parks

Van Dyke Parks is an American composer, arranger, producer, musician, singer, author and actor. Mr. Parks is perhaps best known for his contributions as a lyricist on the Beach Boys album Smile. Mr. Parks has worked with such notable performers as Grace Kelly, Delaney Bramlett, The Byrds, Loudon Wainwright III, Harry Nilsson, Silverchair, Ry Cooder, Joanna Newsom, Inara George, Keith Moon and Ringo Starr. In addition to producing, Mr. Parks has released six studio albums of his own recordings: Song Cycle, Discover America, Clang of the Yankee Reaper, Jump!, Tokyo Rose, and with Brian Wilson, Orange Crate Art. He has also released a live album, Moonlighting. Mr. Parks is currently releasing a series of new compositions on 7 inch vinyl via his own label, Bananastan. The sleeve art for each platter will be done by a different artist, with the visual relating to the audio work within. These artists include Ed Ruscha, Charles Ray, Art Spiegelman, Frank Holmes, and Mr. Park’s wife, Sally. Banastan also released Van Dyke Parks--arrangements Vol.1, a CD compilation of re-releases of Mr. Park’s work with Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Sal Valentino, Arlo Guthrie, Little Feat, Lowell George, and others. Pitchfork.com. named the album a "Best New Reissue.”
