The Tour of Belgian Luxembourg loop is a GR route that starts in Neufchâteau. This hike takes you almost 250 kilometres (155 mi) through dark forests, green meadows, and bucolic streams – in short, it's a nature extravaganza!
Along the way, you’ll also come across exceptional churches, castles packed with history, as well as stunning lakes and rivers. On the second half of the route, you’ll walk in the footsteps of an exciting industrial past and the history of the two world wars.
The GR 151 passes through several forests, including Anlier and Saint-Hubert. It crosses the Bastogne and Recogne plateaus, with their epic, wide open landscapes.
Note that a new edition of the GR 151 was launched at the end of 2021. As a result, the signposting of the entire GR will change colour. The new markers will gradually be painted in yellow and red. In many places, the route has been modified and differs from the former one.
The easiest way to reach the start in Neufchâteau is by car. There’s a train station, but it’s a bit out of the way – 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the centre. If you want to come by train, another option is to start the hike in Libramont, where stage 2 begins.
Bring comfortable hiking shoes, water and snacks, as you may have to hike in the wilderness for a whole day. The summer season is the best time of the year to do this hike thanks to the warmth and long days. Note that in Belgium, hiking during the summer season does not protect you from rainy days!
For accommodation, camping is a great option. At the end of most of the stages you’ll find some Airbnb or gîtes but they will be few and far between and, on some stages, camping will be your only option.
Have a good hike!
