The home of the Duke of Grafton, this extraordinary country house was built in the 1600s and saw Elizabeth I stay within its walls. The house has seen extensive rebuilding over the centuries and remains in excellent condition and open to visitors on set days throughout the summer. The parkland and gardens are particularly notable too, in part designed by Capability Brown and expert gardener and diarist, John Evelyn. The estate covers over 10,000 acres (4,050 ha) of which more than half is farmed with a conservation heavy ethos. A watermill and church can also be found on the estate.
