Aringay was formerly a part of Pangasinan and became a part of the province of La Union in 1850. Widely-known for its famous Bangus, Aringay is approximately a five-hour drive from Manila. Tricycles stationed in front of its public market are readily available to take visitors anywhere in the municipality especially those seeking the ultimate beach experience that resorts located along the coast has to offer.
A second-class municipality, Aringay is home of the Philippine National Police Regional Training Center and the hometown of the Philippines’ first Ms. Universe, Ms. Gloria Diaz. It is politically subdivided into 24 barangays, namely:
