A man was taken to hospital after the car he was driving hit a telegraph pole on a rural road in Leicestershire. The force of the impact knocked the mast over, with the pole and telephone wires falling into the road.

The incident happened in Peatling Parva Road, outside the village of Peatling Magna, near Lutterworth, last night (Tuesday, October 11). It is believed that the car veered into the pole after a collision with another vehicle, which left the scene before police arrived.

Emergency services were called to the incident shortly after 8.30pm. Crews from Lutterworth, Wigston and Billesdon fire station attended the scene.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said it was called to the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 8.40pm. "The driver had managed to free himself from the car and was being treated by the ambulance service," she added.

Leicestershire Police said the driver was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. The force said they were not believed to life-threatening or life-changing. A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly after 8.30pm yesterday, we received a report of a two-car collision in Peatling Parva Road, Leicestershire. One of the vehicles subsequently hit a telegraph pole. The second vehicle left the scene before emergency services arrived." The road was closed while the incident was dealt with and has since been reopened.

Police are calling on anyone who witnessed the crash to call them on 101, quoting incident 626 of Tuesday, October 11. Alternatively, officers can be contacted using the force website.
