54% of Fortune 500 CEOs played college sports and 9 in 10 women CEOs played sports at one time.
It’s pretty clear that athletics, especially when you reach the collegiate level, have a direct correlation to success in business.
Why?
In my opinion it has to do with the leadership skills you start building at a very young age and fine tune as you progress to different levels. For example, starting young sports gives you the chance to work on communication, desire to win, relentlessly pursuing a goal, teamwork, selflessness, leadership, empathy, handling failure, work ethic, time management, and so much more.
Athletes that reach high levels are trained over a long period of time to lead, motivate, and inspire a group of people to reach a common goal.
At the end of the day the best leaders will make you want to run through a wall for them and I think athletes learn how to do that through sports.
