BOYNE FALLS, MI – A young child was injured when they fell from a chairlift at Boyne Mountain.

According to a spokesperson from the popular Northern Michigan resort, the incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Jan. 14 when the young child, accompanied by a family member, boarded the Boyneland chairlift.

The chairlift is a triple-seat lift that services beginner terrain. The child fell from the chairlift between towers seven and eight.

A bystander who witnessed the incident informed Ski Patrol, who immediately responded to the scene and began initial assessment and treatment.

The child was then transported by ambulance to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey and later transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The child was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, resort staff said.

“This was a scary incident for all involved,” said Jason Perl, general manager of Boyne Mountain Resort. “We have been in regular contact with the family and our thoughts will remain with them as this child recovers. The safety of our guests is a top concern and we’re grateful that a helmet was being worn.”

Boyne Mountain personnel inspected the chair and restraint bar and found all to be in working order, according to a statement.
